Understanding your water bill and services.

In June 2026, the Board of East Gippsland Water adopted the following tariffs, charges and pricing principles.

All East Gippsland Water customers receive a bill four times a year and have 28 days from the date of issue to settle their account.

Our Water Supply Districts are: Mitchell River, Mallacoota, Brodribb River, Bemm River, Cann River, Buchan, Omeo, Dinner Plain, Swifts Creek.

This covers the areas of: Bairnsdale, Paynesville, Lindenow, Eagle Point, Lindenow South, Newlands Arm, Banksia Peninsula, Kalimna, Lake Bunga Beach, Wy Yung, Raymond Island, Mallacoota, Orbost, Marlo, Newmerella, Bemm River, Buchan, Cann River, Swifts Creek, Lakes Entrance, Lake Tyers Beach, Bruthen, Sarsfield, Nicholson, Johnsonville, Swan Reach, Metung, Nowa Nowa, Omeo, Dinner Plain and Tambo Bluff.

The wastewater tariff is a fixed tariff that reflects the cost of making sewerage services available to your property.

It is calculated at a fixed dollar rate per day and is based on the amount of wastewater discharged by the average domestic household in East Gippsland. This is referred to as the “charge per equivalent tenement” (EQT), with one EQT calculated to be equivalent to 177 kilolitres of wastewater discharged by a single household.

We charge commercial properties a wastewater tariff based on the load that they place on the wastewater system relative to a single domestic household (EQT). Essentially, if a commercial property discharges wastewater up to the magnitude of one domestic house (one EQT), that business would be charged the same as one domestic house. If the business produces twice the wastewater volume of a domestic house then that business would be charged two EQTs.

Development Planning Charges

The charge varies by project cost, see fee structure below.
Project cost:

Less than or equal to $5,000: $450.00
Between $5,001 - $50,000: 4% or a minimum of $900.00
Between $50,001 - $100,000: 5% or a minimum of $3,500.00
Equal to, or greater than, $100,001: 6% or a minimum of $5,500.00

General Planning charges

Build over easements – new applications: $117.08
Plan fee: $10.00
Administration fee: $10.00**
Non-core miscellaneous services*: Actual cost

East Gippsland Water has set prices for all other non-core, miscellaneous services not covered above, which will also incur an additional 25% charge to cover our costs.

** Fee charged for processing a refund, when more than one refund per financial year is requested.

Billing information

Invoices will be issued on three-monthly billing cycles (roughly every 90 days).

Customers have 28 days from the date of issue to pay their invoice. Subject to our Customer Charter, penalty interest will be charged at 6.0% p.a. for late payments.

Payment types

We accept payments by direct debit, Centrepay, Australia Post, BPay, telephone, mail or in person at our Bairnsdale Office (133 MacLeod St).

Payment assistance

We offer a range of assistance options, including financial assistance programs and payment support, such as flexible payment plans. These can be arranged on a case-by-case basis.

Concessions

Customers who hold an eligible concession card can apply for an annual concession of $381.40 off their water and sewerage charges.
